Some thoughts from Gary Wilson’s “Your Brain On Porn” compiled by David Vraza MA.
Like Pavlov’s dog, repeatedly pairing a stimulus and a response creates an automatic response. Pairing erotic images and an orgasm creates a powerful bond. Porn offers novelty and danger. Novelty —an endless supply of new images, and danger — this material is breaking taboos and setting me on edge. Searching for the next image is releasing dopamine. Hiding and secrecy add a touch of adrenaline. The expectation of the next great arousal is overwhelming. Your brain is being rewired. Life’s natural rewards, such as friendship, goal pursuit, and accomplishment, can hardly compete with the explosive rewards of porn and masturbation.
Do you feel trapped in a series of automatic responses that kick off with an internet search term? Is the incredible pressure to escalate the content pushing you beyond your boundaries? Come join us at NewPath to interrupt the patterns that have you stuck in a rut of pornography.
