Some thoughts from Samuel L. Perry’s “Addicted to Lust” compiled by David Vraza MA.
Perry is concerned about the tendency of conservative Protestants to apply what he terms “sexual exceptionalism” – the view that “sexual sin is the supremely corrupting sin – the worst of all possible sins.”
Is sexual sin supremely corrupting? It seems biblical to say that all sin is corrupting. Sexual sin is called out in 1 Corinthians 6:18-19 for the way it distorts body, mind, and soul at a deep level of identity. But the bible also teaches in James 2:10 that even the “smallest” sin is enough to separate us from God.
Don’t hide at the level of theological arguments. Has your porn use separated you from God, yourself, and your community? Has your porn use corrupted you? Come and join us at NewPath on Monday evenings to speak freely and with curiosity about the effect of pornography on our lives.
